In Flight Knitting

I need to tell you all about something that happened to me recently. As knitters and crafters and I am sure you will understand, and as friends, I am sure it will give you a giggle!
A few weeks ago I went to Bendigo for a couple of days (yes, there was a visit to the Bendigo Woollen Mills - it's obligatory!) and on the flight home I was knitting, like always...

my sock project on the go
This time though, I had managed to score exit row seats half ways down the plane. Lots of leg room, Big Bang Theory and knitting, I was all set!
I made it about 20 minutes into the flight before disaster struck. You see, I had decided to be clever and split my ball of Knit Pick Felici into two, you know, to get my socks perfectly matching. The problem with this, was that the hand-wound balls were completely round...
So, as I am knitting, I pull on the yarn and the ball jumps out of my project bag and - you guessed it - rolled down the aisle like a lost meatball! It not only rolled down the aisle, but went to the opposite side of the plane, and under people's chairs!

*sigh*
Red faced, I walked past the giggling passengers to try and retrieve my waylaid yarn. Unfortunately, on my journey down the aisle, my sock project had got tangled up on my shoe and decided to come with me...
A lovely flight attendant gave it back to me, but on his walk to the front of the plane, he also got caught in the yarn!!
*cringe*
By now a few people were having a quiet chuckle, if I was watching I would be laughing too!
I managed to pick up most of my yarn, but the ball was eluding me! In fact, during the hunt it had rolled even further back!
I conceded that there would be no more knitting on the flight for me and I had to leave my sock and gathered yarn under someone's chair until the flight landed and I could retrieve it.
I was grateful for the Big Bang Theory episodes to take my mind off my embarrassment, but said that I had over an hour of no knitting. *pout* I am sure you understand.
At the end of the flight, I was the very last passenger off the plane, I had half of the plane walk past me as I waited. I even managed to surprise the cleaners as I crawled around on the floor, searching for the lost ball.
But, you will be happy to know that not only did I get it back, but I didn't even drop a single stitch!
So, the moral of this story is make sure you don't have a rolling ball of yarn on a plane!
